DVD-Video
The latest in multimedia digital technology, DVD, guarantees second-to-none picture quality and sound. The digital picture is twice as sharp
as standard VHS videotape. Home cinema ready, DVD enables surround sound as impressive as in the cinema, right in your home. The media
itself is more durable than VHS tape and doesn’t need to be rewound. Plus DVD is packed with useful features – multiple language and soundtracks and
subtitles, support for various multi-channel audio encoding technologies such as DTS and Dolby Digital, multiple camera angle viewing selection, parental
blocking, return-to-pause and view-per-chapter and support for both virtual or digital surround sound. With all of this, DVD is clearly the future.
Dolby Digital
The current surround sound quality encoding standard, Dolby Digital means movie theatre sound performance for your home cinema.
Its 5.1 channel audio sound compression technology wraps you in sound. The front left and right, centre, rear left and right speakers
span frequencies from 20 Hz – 20 kHz and there is a dedicated subwoofer channel for additional low frequency sound effects. Extra features mean not only
stunning soundtracks but also additional language tracks on one disc.
And Dolby Digital has gone a step further with THX Surround EX – a co-development between Dolby Digital and THX – which adds another audio channel to
the soundtrack behind the listener, meaning more depth and localisation for even more sound perfection.
DTS
DTS 5.1 channel playback encoding technology is rapidly gaining popularity thanks to its dynamic sound impact that flies at the listener from
left, right and centre surround sound speakers. Open up the doors of digital home cinema and super surround sound with any Pioneer DVD
player and A/V amplifier/receiver* because they can handle DTS encoded digital audio data streams.

DTS-ES (Matrix 6.1)
Early this year, DTS introduced a new cinema decoder: DTS-ES. Using low data compression and a high data transfer rate, DTS-ES adds
an additional sound channel, allowing filmmakers to be even more creative with sound.

Dolby Pro Logic
The forerunner to the increasingly popular Dolby Digital format, Dolby Pro Logic Surround uses five speakers to create
a cinematic surround sound ambience. By decoding sound data contained in Dolby Surround, it produces four distinct
outputs: front left, front right, centre and rear (2 speakers).
Playback Compatibility (DVD Players)
All Pioneer DVD players can play CD-R and CD-RW* discs, thanks to Pioneer’s Twin-Wave Laser Pick-up, in
addition to DVD-Video, audio CD and video CD discs.
All new Pioneer DVD players can play back DVD-R and DVD-RW discs recorded in "Video" mode. The DV-646A
and DV-545 players can also handle discs recorded in "DVD Video Recording" mode, which combines many
high quality, easy-to-use recording and editing functions to make recording, editing and disc navigation a
breeze.
Note: DVD players which have this mark can play discs recorded in "DVD Video Recording" mode, and of course DVD-R and DVD-RW discs recorded in "Video" mode.
* Note: CD-R and CD-RW discs may be read on the condition that they comply to the applicable Orange Book standards, and have been recorded with data that adhere to the applicable Red Book (CD-DA)
or White Book (Video CD; version 2.0) formats. Both CD-R and CD-RW discs which are recorded by music CD format can be reproduced. Disc may not be reproduced because of following reasons: recording
characteristics of recorder/characteristics of disc/ scratch and dust on disc/dust and condensation on pickup lens. Unfinalised discs can be reproduced (however because the TOC (table-of-contents)
information is lacking, time display may not be shown).

MP3 Playback Compatibility (DV-646A/DV-545/DV-444-K/DV-444-S)
Pioneer's DVD players with MP3 playback capability and easy-to-use features keep up with the wave of the
future. These players are capable of reading MP3 files recorded onto CD-R or CD-RW discs. Because MP3 files
occupy less space on a disc, you can create CDs with up to 10 hours of compressed audio – that's a lot of
listening in a small package. And Pioneer has made finding your way through a sea of up to 250 MP3
directories and files as easy as a day at the beach, by using the on-screen display (you can view on your TV)
for navigation and for programming or selecting files.
