Cleaning, when the unit is cold!
The tube may get slightly sooty, particularly at the very top. This happens more if a breeze moves the
flame around as it exits from the tube. If wanted, though not necessary, you can clean the tube by
running some water through from a hose and using the Cleaning Sponge available in our Firestorm
Accessory Kit.
Make sure that you are careful. You don’t need to use any detergents or pressure. Any soot will only
be sitting on the surface and comes off very easily. Always do this with the tube resting on something
soft; grass, a cloth or a piece of cardboard. This will reduce the risk of breaking the tube. Once the
tube is clean it can be reassembled into your Firestorm to dry and be ready for next time.
After use, the grate (just inside the ash tray that the pellets burn on) will need a little clean to ensure
the ash does not block the holes. This can easily be done with a small metal rod or tent peg. This is
best achieved from both the top, through the square tube where you light the unit, and through the
back where the ash collects. The small amount of ash can then be cleaned out of the back area using
the Ash Scraper into the Ash Tray ready for the next use of the Firestorm.
Exceptional circumstances:-
If you are really unfortunate that the unit has smoked excessively for any
reason and you haven’t noticed you will end up with a tar like film on the inside of the tube. To clean
this it is easiest to spray with “Mr Muscle” oven cleaner or similar. This can be done from both ends of
the tube to get full coverage. Leave for the advised period, then rinse and use the cleaning sponge as
normal. Thoroughly rinse any residue from both the inside and outside. Take heed of all the
instructions when using this type of product and ensure that anyone, particularly children and pets,
do not have access to the area where the tube is being cleaned.
Type and storage of Wood Pellets
Wood pellets are available for purchase on our website. Many stove, fireplace and agricultural
shops also sell them.
Look for pellets that are to “ENplus A1” standard. This guarantees the minimum level of
quality we recommend, other cheaper varieties create more ash and smoke when burnt.
Always store pellets in a dry environment. Wood pellets will readily absorb water if left in
damp conditions. More moisture in your pellets will produce smoke and the glass tube will
have to be cleaned more often.
Try and use some with minimal “bits”. Small fragmented bits of pellets will tend to create
more ash and block the grate area quicker.
