MODULE ARCHITECTURE
The 40/42-588 is a high density 2-pole switching matrix constructed from 16x8 matrix daughter cards linked with
an analog bus. It can be fitted with 1 or 2 matrix daughter cards and connections are made by operating crosspoint
relays between X and Y lines allowing single X-Y connections, or X-X connections using a Y line as a path. Isolation
switches are used to route Y signals between sub-matrix cards via the analog bus. When not in use, Y connections
are disconnected from the analog bus to preserve bandwidth and crosstalk performance. All signal connections are
2-wire and crosspoint and isolation relays are 2-pole. Both poles are operated simultaneously when a signal path is
enabled. An example configuration for the 32x8 matrix using 2 matrix daughter cards is shown in Figure 4.1.
