SECTION 6:  HEALTH HAZARD DATA

WARNING

:  THIS LAMP EMITS SHORTWAVE ULTRAVIOLET RADIATION WHICH IS

HARMFUL TO SKIN AND EYES AND CAN CAUSE SERIOUS SKIN BURNS AND EYE
INFLAMMATION.  USE ONLY IN EQUIPMENT SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO
REDUCE THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY AND PROPERTY DAMAGE RESULTING
FROM ARC TUBE RUPTURE AND FROM ULTRAVIOLET RADIATION.  IT IS
RECOMMENDED THAT THIS LAMP BE USED IN FIXTURES HAVING A SAFETY
INTERLOCK SWITCH.  LEAD IODIDE IS NOT LISTED AS A CARCINOGEN BY IARC,
NTP, OR OSHA.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FIRST AID:  If exposure to ultraviolet radiation occurs, it is recommended that an
opthamologist be consulted.

SECTION 7:  PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING AND USE

WASTE DISPOSAL METHOD: The lamp contains a small amount of mercury - together with a
small amount of lead iodide.  Under the toxicity characteristic leaching procedure (TCLP)
promulgated by the United States E.P.A. tests of used or spent high intensity discharge lamps
indicate that these lamps generally are considered to be hazardous  when discarded.  (Fed. Reg.
7/27/94.) EPA has issued the Universal waste Rule for lamps which fail the TCLP (Fed Reg
7/6/99).  More than thirty States now manage lamps under this Rule. The UWR requires
recycling or hazardous waste disposal of those lamps which fail TCLP. There are some
exemptions which depend on your status, volume and or location. Check with your State
Authorities for information to ensure proper waste disposal practice.
