User Function 1 - Local Keyboard Test
User function 1 can be used as a local test to ensure
that all the keyboard's LEDs and switches are in
working order.
This function will also
automatically calibrate the center position of the
analog joystick on TC8553 and TC8555 type
keyboards.
Upon entering this test, the keyboard will
beep and all the LEDs will light for about two
seconds. The USER should note if there are any LED
failures during this time.
Each key may be pressed to display a unique code
number associated with that key. Follow the table
below to ensure that all keys are properly being
processed by the keyboard. Values for TC8550A,
TC8553, and TC8551A type keyboards are listed in
column "A". Values for TC8554 and TC8555 type
keyboards are listed in column "B". Push the USER
key last, as this will cause the keyboard to exit from
the test mode.
If the log-on system feature has been selected by the
system installer, the same local test may be initiated
while the keyboard is not "ON LINE" by pressing the
"*" key.

and X39 in the counter clockwise direction. The
zoom control of the TC8555 keyboard will indicate a
value of X41 when rotated in the clockwise direction
and X40 in the counter clockwise direction.
User Function 2 - Show Keyboard Port Number
User function 2 may be used to identify which port a
keyboard is plugged into. After entering user function
2, read the keyboard port number from the monitor
display on the keyboard. Press USER to exit.
User Function 3 -
Select Keyboard Beeper ON / OFF
When user function 3 is selected, the keyboard user
may enable or disable the keyboard audio beeper.
After entering user function 3, press ON to enable
the beeper or OFF to disable it. Press USER to exit.
Note that this setting will automatically be set to ON
upon power up of the keyboard and whenever the
Allegiant system undergoes a reset.
User Function 4 -
Adjust Position of Monitor Overlay
User function 4 allows the characters on the video
monitor display to be positioned from the keyboard.
Only the display on the monitor the keyboard is
currently 'connected' to will be effected.
After entering user function 4, use the joystick to
position the display as required. Press USER to exit.
User Function 5 -
Monitor Display Brightness / Status Selection
The white portion of the characters on the video
monitor display may be made brighter or dimmer by
the user 5 feature. Only the display on the monitor
the keyboard is currently 'connected' to will be
effected. After entering the mode, there are four
possible settings; moving the joystick up will increase
the brightness and moving the joystick down will
decrease the brightness.
The user 5 mode also permits selection of either the
'status' display or a 12 character 'monitor message'
to appear in the first line of the monitor display. The
‘status’ display will indicate alarm, sequence, and
lockout information regarding the monitor. The
'monitor message' is a stationary display. This means
the display will not change as the video is switched
from camera to camera on the monitor. After
entering the mode, moving the joystick left will select
the 'monitor message' format and moving the
joystick right will select the 'status' format. To exit the
mode, press USER.
