3. Inspection, points to verify

Your safety depends upon the integrity of your equipment.
Petzl recommends a detailed inspection by a competent person at least once every
12 months (depending on current regulations in your country, and your conditions of
usage).
WARNING: your intensity of use may cause you to inspect your PPE more frequently.
Follow the procedures described at Petzl.com. Record the results on your PPE
inspection form: type, model, manufacturer contact info, serial number or individual
number, dates: manufacture, purchase, first use, next periodic inspection; problems,
comments, inspector’s name and signature.

Before each use

Check the condition of the seat.
Check the condition of the webbing, especially at the attachment point, the adjustment
buckles and the safety stitching.
Look for cuts, damage, swelling and wear due to use, to heat, to contact with
chemicals... Be particularly careful to check for cut or loose threads.
Check the condition of the attachment point and the buckles (absence of marks,
cracks, deformation, wear, corrosion...).
Verify that the adjustment buckles and the FAST buckle function properly.
Am’D TL connector: verify the absence of any marks, cracks, deformation, wear or
corrosion on the frame, rivet, gate and locking sleeve. Verify that the gate opens, that
it closes automatically and completely, and that the locking sleeve locks automatically
and completely.

During use

Regularly verify that the adjustment buckles are properly tightened.
It is important to regularly monitor the condition of the product and its connections to
the other equipment in the system. Make sure that all items of equipment are correctly
positioned with respect to each other.
Verify that the carabiner is always loaded on the major axis. Regularly check that the
locking sleeve is locked. Avoid any pressure or rubbing that could unlock the gate or
damage the locking sleeve.

4. Compatibility

Verify that this product is compatible with the other elements of the system in your
application (compatible = good functional interaction).
Equipment used with your harness must meet current standards in your country (e.g.
EN 362 carabiners).
THALES was designed to be fastened with Am’D TRIACT-LOCK. If using any other
connector, carry out a compatibility test (correct installation and functioning, and check
for any possibility of poor positioning).

5. Putting on the triangle

Put on the shoulder straps, pass the sternal strap under the arms and fasten it by
connecting the Am’D to the attachment point. Pass the crotch strap between the legs
and fasten it with the FAST buckle.

6. Adjustments

Proper strap adjustment helps reduce the risk of tilting or falling out of the triangle.
Adjust the shoulder straps to set the position of the sternal strap. Adjust the sternal
strap and the crotch strap to fit the user.
In a safe location, move around in the triangle and hang in it to verify it is properly
adjusted for the planned usage.

7. Attaching for evacuation

The evacuation system must be attached to the attachment point.
Once suspended, the user can position themselves in the seat bottom by pulling on
the comfort handles.
The user must keep the arms above the sternal strap.
Hanging in free space can present a trauma risk to the person being rescued.
The rescuer must ensure that the rescued person is not endangered by any movement
of the rescue triangle straps or by contact with the attachment components.

8. Guide handle

The dorsal guide handle can be used by hand or with a tag line attached.
WARNING: this handle is not designed for suspending the user.

9. Chest collar configuration

Starting at the crotch strap, roll the triangle as shown in the diagrams. Be sure to leave
the carabiner and attachment point accessible.

10. Chest collar mode

Suspension in the chest collar should be as short as possible to limit the risk of
muscular, respiratory and circulatory discomfort.
The chest collar is designed for quickly equipping a person in trouble, without a
harness, and moving them to the nearest safe place. Once the person is on their feet,
it is not necessary to detach the chest collar in order to unroll and put on the complete
triangle.
Follow the adjustment directions for the triangle in section 6.

11. Connector

Am’D TRIACT-LOCK EN 362: 2004/B (basic) connector.
A carabiner is not indestructible.
A carabiner is strongest when loaded on the major axis, with the gate closed. Loading
a carabiner in any other way (e.g. on the minor axis or with the gate open) is dangerous

and can reduce its strength. The carabiner must be used with the gate closed and the
sleeve locked. Check each time you close it to ensure it is completely locked.
