The secondary filter element must be replaced at
the same time as the primary filter element. Also,
the in-line filter must be changed. Refer to the
Operation and Maintenance Manual , “Fuel
System Filter - Replace”.

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electri-
cal components can cause a fire. To help prevent
possible injury, turn the start switch off when
changing fuel filters or water separator elements.
Clean up fuel spills immediately.
NOTICE
Ensure that the engine is stopped before any servic-
ing or repair is performed.
NOTICE
The water separator can be under suction during nor-
mal engine operation. Ensure that the drain valve is
tightened securely to help prevent air from entering
the fuel system.
Drain Procedure
1.
Place a suitable container under the water
separator to catch any fluid that might spill. Clean
up any spilled fluid.
2.
Ensure that the outer body of the filter assembly is
clean and free from dirt.

Install a suitable tube onto drain (3). Open the
drain valve (2). Rotate the drain valve
counterclockwise. Two full turns are required.
Loosen vent screw (1).
4.
Visually check that the fluid will drain. Allow the
fluid to drain into the container.
5.
When fluid free from water comes from the primary
fuel filter, tighten the drain valve clockwise by hand
pressure only. Remove the tube and remove the
container.
6.
Tighten the vent screw to a torque of 2.5 N·m
(22 lb in).
