Purpose of the Replacement PROM
The replacement Programmable Read-Only Memory (PROM) integrated circuit for
the SNE2040G network extender provides the following enhancements:
SNMP Management – The new firmware on the PROM provides support for
Paradyne enterprise MIBs and selected MIB II OIDs.
Flash Download Capability – Future upgrades will not require replacement of
the PROM. You will be able to download new firmware using TFTP.
Replacement Procedure
HANDLING PRECAUTIONS FOR
STATIC-SENSITIVE DEVICES
This product is designed to protect sensitive components from damage
due to electrostatic discharge (ESD) during normal operation. When
performing installation procedures, however, take proper static control
precautions to prevent damage to equipment. If you are not sure of the
proper static control precautions, contact your nearest sales or service
representative.
To install the replacement PROM:
Procedure
1. Remove the power cord from the SNE2040G.
2. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the four screws at the top, bottom, and
sides of the SNE2040G.
3. Using a 3/8-inch socket or a pair of pliers, remove the nut and washer holding
in the place the power receptacle at the back of the SNE2040G.
4. Carefully pull apart the top and bottom covers of the SNE2040G and lay them
side by side. The two parts will remain connected by wires between the fan
and the circuit card.
5. Locate the PROM on the circuit card. Note the orientation of the writing on the
PROM so that you can orient the new PROM the same way.
