We recommend that the user whenever possible should sit in a seat in the vehicle
and use the vehicle’s seatbelt.
If the user remains seated in a wheelchair during transportation we recommend
that the back of the wheelchair should be the same height or higher than the user’s
shoulders.
The user should be secured in the vehicle using a 3-point belt. This is to minimise
the risk of head and/or chest injuries in the event of a collision or sudden braking.
The seat belt in the vehicle should have contact with the body and may not be held
away from the body by any part of the wheelchair. See fi gures 17 and 18.
Loose accessories on the chair should be removed to reduce the risk of injury to
the user or other passengers.
