Management Protocols
SNMP is used for configuring system and bridge parameters, monitoring
statistics, and performing advanced management.
SNMP
This management protocol specifies how to send information between a
Network Management System (NMS) and managed devices on a network.
Managed devices (such as the Megabit Modem CRA-C) run a program called
an agent. The agent interprets SNMP requests and responds to them. The
NMS communicates with the agents in the managed devices to:
set configuration
get configuration
get status
A Management Information Base (MIB) defines these configuration and status
parameters. The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) specifies standard
MIBs for certain types of devices, ensuring any NMS can manage them.
Additionally, vendors can issue proprietary MIBs for their devices to fit
specific needs.
Table 19 shows the Megabit Modem CRA-C SNMP configuration parameters
that are maintained and restored through the local console port. These
parameters are kept in the Megabit Modem CRA-C NVRAM and are
parameters that must be configured for SNMP to work.
