Clever Tether
Thank you for purchasing the P8280 Clever Tether. The Clever Tether Laptop Alarm is the
easy way to protect your laptop from theft via its USB port. If you need to leave your computer
unattended for a moment, you can count on the Clever Tether to alert you if someone tries to steal
it. There’s no software to install and no hardware drivers to worry about. You will feel reassured in
knowing your laptop and information are safe and secure where you left it.
This unit will provide you with years of service if cared for properly. Please read these
operating instructions thoroughly before use.
How to Use:
•
Set Up and Arming
1. Uncoil the Tether from the unit and secure it around a stationary object such as a
desk leg, etc.
2. Loop the USB head through the hole in the unit and plug into your laptop.
3. When the tether is plugged in, the alarm will beep once.
4. Remove the key to arm the alarm; a short beep will sound to confirm alarming.

Note:
Two things can affect proper arming
Bad contact in/with the laptop USB port.
If the key is removed before connecting to the USB port.

Disarming
1. To disarm the unit, replace the key into the Clever Tether and unplug from your
laptop.

Silencing the Alarm
1. If the USB is pulled from the socket without the key being inserted beforehand or if
the cord is cut, the alarm will sound for one minute.
2. To silence the alarm, insert the key into the unit.

Caution
1.
DO NOT
expose to water, freezing or direct heat, damage may occur.
2.
Choking Hazard:
Keep the unit away from children. Small parts can cause injury if
misused or ingested.
3. The alarm sound is very loud. Do not place the alarm near your ear. Hearing
impairment may occur.

1. The alarm key can be used with any Clever Tether unit. When the USB is connected
to the laptop, the Clever Tether unit identifies the unique code of the inserted key. To
