6.3 Donning the Prosthesis

Your  Ottobock  team  instructed  you  in  how  to  don  the  prosthesis.  The  following  donning  tech
nique is well proven:
1)  Make preparations such as putting on trousers and the shoe while seated.
2)  It is best to stand up in order to don the prosthesis.
3)  Open the pelvic socket just wide enough to enter with the amputated side.
4)  Smooth  your  underwear  or  residual  limb  sock  to  avoid  wrinkles  and  thus  prevent  pressure

sores and chafing.

5)  Tighten the closure straps one after the other. Ensure that your skin does not get pinched.
6)  Lift the prosthesis with your body as if you were taking a step.

This allows you to verify that the pelvic socket is positioned correctly. It must not slip or con
fine the body.

Remove the prosthesis if it does not fit properly. Try donning the prosthesis again. Contact your
prosthetist in case of any problems.
