How to Insert an Open Fit Hearing Aid

1. Place the hearing aid behind your ear.
2 .Hold the bend of the tube between your
finger and thumb. The dome should point
towards the ear canal opening. Gently
massage the dome into your ear canal
until the tube sits flush against the skin on
the side of your head.
3. Tuck the ear grip/ tail back into the bowl
of your ear. If any tube is sticking out it is
not positioned correctly, repeat the above
procedure.

Trouble shooting:
No sound from the aid?

•

Possible cause – flat battery, blockage in the tubing,
kink in the tube.

•

Solution – try a new battery, disconnect the tubing and
use the cleaning wire as demonstrated on page 6. You
may find that there is a kink in the tubing causing the
tube to block, return to the audiology department for a
replacement tube.

Aid is whistling?

•

Possible cause – dome not inserted correctly, wax in
the ear canal,.

•

Solution – ensure that the dome is inserted fully, when
pushing the dome into the ear a massaging motion will
help to push the dome further for a better acoustic
seal. For a build up of wax please see your GP.

Hearing aid/Dome is making your ear sore?

•

Possible cause – dome not inserted correctly, tubing
may be too long/short, dome may be too large.

•

Solution – ensure that the dome is inserted fully (see
above). Attend a maintenance session to be assessed
by a member of staff.
