Undo all the straps and fasten them back on themselves for the moment.
Separate the padding from the stays with the straps.
Check that the retro-tibial pad is completely deflated.
Attach the pads securely to the leg, fastening them at the front with the Velcro straps
provided: first fasten the thigh straps and then the calf straps (fig. A). Place the stays
next to the leg to make it easier to position the bands at the right height. If necessary,
trim the pads to adapt to the circumference of the leg (cut along the lines where the pads
meet so that they do not open up).
Bend the stays so they can be adapted to fit the shape of the patient’s leg (fig. B).
Adjust the flexion and extension, as described (points 1–5, adjusting the hinges): use the
same procedure for both hinges.
Attach the stays to the pads (fig. C): the stays should follow the median line of the leg and
the hinges should be aligned with the kneecap so that they rest on the condyles. Use the
lateral malleolus and the greater trochanter as reference points to help align the stays
with the median line of the leg.
Check that the straps are perfectly matched up with the pads.
Check that the two hinges are at the same height.
Pass the Velcro
®
straps through the rings provided and fasten: first fasten the thigh (fig.
D) straps beginning with the one nearest the knee, and then fasten the calf straps
(fig. E). The straps should be tightened enough to prevent the brace moving up or down.
Inflate the retro-tibial pad as directed using the pump provided (fig. F). Warning: over
inflating the pad can block the circulation.
NOTE: the bending procedure should be performed by hand, with the help of the grips or laying
the orthesis on a rounded body (chair, edge of a bed ); do not use your own knee as a lever.
