4.3 Mounting to plastic water pipes
Warning: Never mount a heating cable on plastic pipes unless the pipe is filled with water at all
times. Use pipe material made of plastic only (including PEX pipes) and suitable for
water supply. Never spiral the heating cable on pipes. Keep it straight along the pipe. In
order to obtain an even heat distribution, we recommend wrapping the plastic pipes
with aluminium foil before you apply the trace heating.

1. At the beginning of the heating season and then once a month, the heating cable and its con-
nection to the power source should be checked. If the cable is cut, damaged or immersed in
water, stop using it immediately and remove the trace heating. This also applies if there are any
signs of carbonisation or tearing or if for any reason it does not look perfect any more. Other
damages you should look out for at the cable are nibbling by rodents or dirt from lawn mowers.
This heating cable requires no other maintenance.
2. The trace heating can remain on the pipe all year. It is recommended, however, to turn it off at
the end of the winter season or at an air temperature of more than +10 °C or to disconnect it
from the power supply. The thermostat turns on the heating cable when the temperature drops
below +3 °C. It turns it off after the pipe has been heated up to a temperature of approx.
+10 °C.
