Pressure losses through pump head

The selection table takes a maximum pressure loss of 1 m water head into consid-
eration The pressure loss is the sum of height differential between pond surface and
the highest point of the filter system and the pressure losses of the hoses. In the case
of a pressure loss of more than one meter water head, use a pump that is correspond-
ingly stronger.

Pressure losses through hoses

Use the largest hoses possible to minimize pressure losses. For hose lengths from
up to 4 m please use hoses with a diameter of 11/4 – 11/2 inches.
For hose lengths longer than 4 m please use only hoses with a diameter from11/2 –
2 inches.
To avoid pressure loss, saw off the stepped hose adapter at the appropriate point for
the respective hose.
Avoid unnecessary angles and bends that lead to additional pressure loss.

6. Functionality of the Biotec Filter

The Biotec pass-through filter is an open filter system for cleaning pond water biologi-
cally and mechanically.

Water intake

The filter pump is connected to the universal water intake connection with a hose.

Preliminary clarification of the pond water (optional)

The inflowing water is exposed to short wave ultra-violet rays under the UVC bulb. This
kills germs and bacteria and algae flocculation occurs which reduces algae growth.
Then the water flows into the filter via the water distributor. The water is enriched with
oxygen through the spray turbulence

Mechanical filtration

Debris particles are retained by the sieve (Screenex 0.5 mm), before the water flows over
the entire sieve surface in the inner area of the filter. There the water flows through the trickle
mat, where it is further enriched with oxygen and the first biologic processes take place.

Biologic clarification

The pores of he pad inserts form a large interior surface that is a settlement area for
microorganisms.
The red and blue pad inserts are differentiated by density. Thereby zones are created
in which the water can flow at different speeds.
In zones with higher flow speed (blue filter pad) the settlement of microorganisms that
insure a conversion from ammonia to nitrite via nitrate is favored.
In zones with lower flow speed (red filter pad) the settlement of anaerobic microorgan-
isms is supported that undertake a reduction from nitrate to nitrogen (de-nitrification).
