The crossed out wheeled bin placed on: a product label, a battery,
a product or a packaging means that all waste electrical and
electronic equipment and batteries should not be disposed of in
the communal waste bin with other waste. Waste electrical and
electronic equipment and batteries must be handed over to
specialised collection points established pursuant to local
regulations.
Incorrect handling of electrical and electronic equipment, including
mismanagement of waste from used equipment may result in multiple
environmental and health hazards due to the presence of possibly
dangerous substances, mixtures and components in the equipment.
The customer is responsible for the correct handling of waste, since
households play an important role in the reuse and recovery (including
recycling) of waste equipment. An owner of waste equipment originating
from a household is required, in accordance with the waste electric and
electronic equipment regulations in force, to hand it over to a collector of
waste equipment or to entities which provide non-professional collection of
waste electric or electronic equipment. Such entities include wholesale and
retail sellers (distributors), who have an obligation to accept waste
equipment free of charge in accordance with the principles below:
• a distributor is required to accept waste household appliances at the point
of sale, free of charge, on the condition that the waste appliance is of the
same type and fulfilled the same functions as the appliance being sold;
• a distributor is required to accept waste household appliances at the place
of delivery when delivering household appliances to a purchaser, free of
charge, on the condition that the waste appliance is of the same type and
fulfilled the same functions as the appliance being supplied;
• a distributor operating a retail store with a sales area of at least 400 m2
devoted to the sale of household appliances is required to accept at the
store or in its direct vicinity, free of charge, waste household appliances with
external dimensions not exceeding 25 cm in any direction without requiring
the purchase of new household appliance.
