The WPAN will have a tree topology but its precise topology cannot be pre-determined
since the network is formed dynamically. One or more of the Routers may be leaf-
nodes of the tree, in which case their routing capability will not be used.
3.2 Connecting Up the Border-Router
This section describes how to connect up the Border-Router for the Smart Home
Demonstration. The relevant connection instructions depend on whether the
evaluation kit contains the Raspberry Pi board or the Linksys router:
Instructions for the Raspberry Pi board are provided in
Instructions for the Linksys router are provided in
Once you have connected up the Border-Router as described in the relevant section,
you should continue to
which describes how to set up and operate the
Smart Home Demonstration.
3.2.1 Raspberry Pi Connection Instructions
This section describes how to assemble and connect up a Border-Router based on a
Raspberry Pi board. A photograph of the Raspberry Pi board with the related
components is shown in
.
Step 1 Connect an IP router to the PC and power-up both
a)
Connect an IP router (not supplied) to the PC via an Ethernet connection
(alternatively, a Wi-Fi connection may be used, in which case this physical
connection is not relevant).
b)
Power-up the PC and wait for the boot process to complete.
c)
Power-up the IP router, and wait for the boot process to complete and for
communication with the PC to be established (for the indicators of this, refer to
the documentation for your IP router).
Step 2 Connect the the Raspberry Pi board to the IP router
Use the supplied Ethernet cable to connect the Raspberry Pi board to the IP router
(but do not power-up the Raspberry Pi board yet).
Step 3 Connect a JN5168 USB Dongle to the Raspberry Pi board
Connect a JN5168 USB Dongle (which is programmed as a Border-Router and as a
WPAN Co-ordinator) to a USB socket of the Raspberry Pi board.
Also check that the pre-installed microSD card is securely fitted to the Raspberry Pi.
Important:
The Raspberry Pi board cannot be
connected directly to the PC via the Ethernet cable. It
must be connected to the PC via an IP router (not
supplied) which acts as a DHCP server.
