Nutriculture Amazon Aeroponic System Assembly And Operating Instruction Download Page 2

PLACE THE AMAZON IN POSITION

Ensure that the Amazon is placed on a level surface. If placed on a bench ensure that the base of the

tank is adequately supported and that the bench can support the weight of the Amazon when full.

FILL THE TANK

We recommend that you fi ll your reservoir with clean water (no nutrient) up to the maximum level in-

dicator, 2-3 days before transplanting. This allows the water temperature to rise to room temperature

and also allows time for chlorine to escape from tap water.

SETTING UP THE SPRINKLER SYSTEM AND FITTING SUBMERSIBLE PUMP

The sprinkler system is supplied fl at-packed. Before attempting to place it into the Twin

Amazon, it is necessary to open out the pipe work as shown in step 2. Check that all

sprinklers are set to maximum fl ow as described in step 2.

The pump supplied is a Maxi Jet MJ 1000 (please keep pump instructions for future

reference). The pump fi ts comfortably on the base of the tank in the “SIDE DOWN” position. Before

use, turn the impellor housing 90° and fi t suckers to the side panel as shown in step 3. Start pump

and check that all sprinklers have 360° coverage. For pump maintenance see pump instructions.

ADD NUTRIENTS ACCORDING TO LABEL INSTRUCTIONS

Volumes for all Amazon systems = 50 Litres / 11 Gallons

ADJUSTING ACIDITY

Use the pH test kit in accordance with the instructions provided.

GUIDANCE FOR PLANTING OUT TO THE AMAZON

Raise plants from seed as usual, or for best results use a Nutriculture aeroponic propaga-

tor. Only plants with healthy white roots on the outside of the propagation material should be

transplanted. Propagation block should fi t inside the mesh pots. If no propagation material is used

ensure abundant white roots on the cutting before transplanting.

Transplants from a Nutriculture Aeroponic propagator will transplant directly without

removing the mesh pot. Take care not to damage trailing roots during transplanting.

Transplants produced in other propagation units will need to be placed in the mesh pots

provided before being introduced to the Amazon.

MAINTENANCE

There are no daily tasks associated with the Amazon. In most areas frequent checking and adjusting

will not be necessary, however at fi rst check acidity frequently so that you get to know your Amazon.

TOPPING UP WITHOUT AN EC METER

As the plant takes up water and nutrients, top up the Amazon as required with nutrient

solution at half the strength of the recommended dose rate. Change the solution completely about

once per month.

TOPPING UP WITH AN EC METER

Top up with water only, allow one hour for new water to mix with old solution, then check the EC of

the solution and add nutrients to bring the EC back to target EC. Change the solution completely

about once per month.

EMPTYING THE AMAZON

Switch off the pump. Remove the delivery tube from the pump. Fit the emptying tube onto the

pump outlet and arrange so that the tube delivers the solution to waste.  It is not necessary to drain

the Amazon absolutely dry but you can assist the pump to drain the great majority of the solution

by slightly raising the end of the Amazon (furthest end from the pump) when the tank is nearly

empty.  We recommend that as much waste solution as possible is drained off. The remnants may

be soaked up with a sponge.

USED SOLUTION

Used hydroponic solution can be disposed of in the garden where it will be benefi cial to

outdoor plants.

SUBMERSIBLE HEATERS

Lay the heater on the base of the tank.  Heater must remain submerged at all times.

USEFUL HINTS: THE MOST COMMON CAUSES FOR

POOR GROWTH

 A)  Plants placed in chamber far too early - ensure only

strong healthy transplants are used.

B)  Heavy handedness with acid, Please be careful not

to add too much. The acid provided is concentrated

and it is always better to add too little rather than

too much.

C)  Incorrect nutrient dose used.
