Replacing a 16-slot Passport switch air filter
Replace a 16-slot Passport switch air filter pad every two months.
Prerequisites
• You will need an air filter with PEC A0383866.
• The 16-slot Passport switch has two kinds of air filter assemblies. The
spring-loaded air filter assembly displays the label “Air filter, press to
release.” The air filter assembly that is not spring-loaded displays the
label, “Air filter, remove cooling unit drawer first.”
Procedure steps
1 If the air filter assembly is spring-loaded, carefully press and release the
center of the air filter cartridge. This action disengages the air filter
assembly.

If the air filter assembly is not spring-loaded, remove the cooling unit
drawer. See the procedure.“Removing a 16-slot Passport switch cooling
unit” (page 350).
2 Carefully pull the air filter assembly out of its slot. See the figure
“Removing a 16-slot Passport switch air filter assembly” (page 391).
3 Turn the air filter assembly so that the bottom side faces up. See the figure
“Changing a 16-slot Passport switch air filter pad” (page 392).
4 Open the filter gate.
5 Remove the old filter pad and replace it with a new filter pad.
6 Close the filter gate.
7 With the filter gate face down, slide the air filter assembly into its slot at
the top of the cooling unit chassis. See the figure “Installing a 16-slot
Passport switch air filter assembly” (page 393).
CAUTION
Risk of damage to equipment
Never operate a switch for longer than 30 minutes
without an air filter. The air filter protects the power
converters, CPs, and FPs from dust and particles.
