Installing and Operating the Passport 5430 Multiservice Access Switch

Adding or Replacing a PMC Module on the System 
Processor Card 

To add or replace a PMC module on an installed system processor card:

1.

Turn off the Passport 5430.

For instructions, see “Turning the Passport 5430 On and Off” on page 6-9. 

2.

If a redundant power supply is installed, turn it off. 

3.

Put on an antistatic wrist strap. 

For instructions, see “Attaching the Antistatic Wrist Strap” on page 3-2.

4.

Disconnect any cables attached to the ports on the system processor card.

5.

Using a Phillips screwdriver, loosen the 4 captive screws that fasten the 
system processor card to the chassis.

6.

Gently pull the board extractors at each end of the system processor card 
away from you 

(Figure 8-1)

.

The extractors swing open, pulling the card out of the backplane connectors.

Caution: 

Electrostatic discharge can damage hardware. You must wear the 

antistatic wrist strap on your arm whenever you handle printed circuit boards.
