2.6  Define a Scheme for BO IP addresses 

Determine the private IP network addresse s for the LAN on each site. Private IP addresses can 
be selected from: 

•

 10.x.x.x 

•

 172.16.x.x-172-31.x.x 

 

•

 192.168.x.x 

 

Ensure each BO LAN is assigned with a unique IP address to simplify configuration task. 
Reserve 192.168.1.0/24 for using only by C221 factory-default configuration to avoid potential 
address conflicts. 
Private LAN address behind CO gateway should not use reserved 192.168.1.0/24.  
Define subnet size for each site. 8 bits subnet with a mask of 255.255.255.0 is commonly used 
and it is easy to configure and allows up to 254 hosts. 

 

 

2.7  Minimum software requirement 

To use this method, the minimum requirement of software for C251 is V2.1. If you are currently 
running  V2.0,  upgrade it to V2.1.   

2.8  Minimum LAB requirement 

The minimum requirements for successful deployments are:

CO gateway is able to access to Internet and has a fixed IP assigned by ISP 

ƒ

 

PCs with Microsoft Windows and Internet Explorer 

ƒ

 

C251 is able to access to the Internet via ADSL connection. 

ƒ

 

CO technical personal were trained to have knowledge of Nortel Contivity products. 

If your budget allows, you may want to build a controlled lab environment to simulate ADSL ISP. 
To do so, you may need to purchase a DSLAM switch, and routers with ATM interfaces.  

 

2.9  Configuring Contivity Gateway in CO 

The minimum requirements for configuring CO Contivity Gateway are: 

•

 

Upgrade Contivity Gateway software to be 4.80 and above 

•

 

Configure private and public interfaces of Contivity Gateway. 

•

 

Configure at least one user group for C251 Client connection 

•

 

Configure Branch Office groups. One connection per remote C251. Organize groups and 
connections and name them to suit your organization needs. 

•

 

Configure IP addresse s pools for C251 Hard Client address a ssignment. 

•

 

Configure Contivity for Internet access, and test the connection by surfing internet.
