Nokia 500s Installation Guide

before you handle the components or open the appliance. If you do 
not have a grounding wrist strap, make sure you are properly 
grounded before you touch any electronic component.

Replacing a Hard Disk drive

The Nokia 500s appliance supports up to two hard disk drives with the disk 
mirroring feature in the Nokia IPSO operating system. If the appliance has 
only one hard disk drive installed, it is in the top slot (slot A). You can add a 
second hard disk drive into the bottom slot (slot B) or replace the hard disk 
drive in slot A.
This section describes how to remove and replace a failed hard disk drive, 
and how to add an optional second hard disk drive to implement the disk-
mirroring feature.

Figure 20

 shows the location of the hard disk drives on the front of the 500s 

appliance.

Disk Mirroring

The Nokia disk-mirroring feature provides fault tolerance by letting the Nokia 
500s appliance continue working in the event of a disk failure. You can create 
mirror sets that consist of a source hard disk drive (which holds the active
