Selecting AF Servo
Choose from two AF Servo modes—Single Servo AF (Focus-Priority) or
Continuous Servo AF (Release-Priority).
Set focus mode selector to S (Single Servo AF with
Focus-Priority) or C (Continuous Servo AF with
Release-Priority).
• Your selected focus mode, “AF-S” for Single Servo AF
or “AF-C” for Continuous Servo AF, is displayed in the
rear LCD panel (in normal and detailed displays).
S: Single Servo AF with Focus-Priority (AF-S)
The shutter can only be released when the in-focus
indicator
/
appears in the viewfinder (Focus-Priority).
Once focused on a subject, keeping the shutter
release button lightly pressed locks the focus (Focus
Lock). When tracking a moving subject, the camera
remains focused on the subject as long as the shutter
release button is kept lightly pressed (Focus Tracking,
x
31) and the focus locks when the subject stops
moving.
C: Continuous Servo AF with Release-Priority
(AF-C)
Since the priority is on shutter release, you can release
the shutter regardless of the focus status (Release-
Priority). Focus is not locked when
/
appears in the
viewfinder and the camera continues to focus on a
subject until shutter release. With a moving subject,
the camera continuously focuses on a subject as long
as you keep the shutter release button lightly pressed
(Focus Tracking,
x
