Retire Disk
Clicking
Configure RAID > Retire Disk
takes you to the
Retire Disk
page, which allows you to manually
take an array disk out of service while maintaining full redundancy. The disk’s data is rebuilt onto a dedicated
spare or pool spare (see
on page 126), and the disk is not taken offline until the data has been
completely rebuilt onto the spare. This function allows you to remove a troublesome disk from the unit without
compromising data integrity.
Notes:
Retiring a disk from an encrypted array (see
on page 120) does not decrypt the
user data on the disk. Reading or writing to the disk requires the exported encryption key.
The
Disk retirement setting
on the
Configure Rebuild Options
page (see
page 197) affects how disks are retired and how information is rebuilt.
If your Nexsan High-Density Storage system is a multi-unit system (a main unit and one or two expansion
units), you must first select the enclosure where the disk you want to retire is located.
