Hint: there are no Virtual Input buttons in the Switcher’s Effects row. This is because Effects
(representing the current Effects row selection) can itself be assigned as a primary source for
Virtual Inputs.
As you would expect, selecting one of the Virtual Input buttons on the Program row displays the
output of the corresponding Virtual Input output to Program Output. Likewise, clicking V1-V5 on
the
Preview row cues up that Virtual Input’s output for an upcoming Take / Transition operation
(and also displays the corresponding control panel in the tabbed area below).
This arrangement makes it easy to Take or Transition directly to, from or between Virtual Inputs
with a single click – even when the video sources embedded in the Virtual Input composition for
both are
identical .

Virtual Inputs support two primary video sources. As we observed in the preceding chapter,
normally (that is, apart from Virtual Inputs) when the Switcher’s Program row source is partially
transparent (as a result of your LiveMatte settings), the Effects row selection appears ‘through’
the transparent areas on Program Output .
The situation is similar for Virtual Inputs , which support two primary video sources. These are
labeled Input A and B . Selection is made using switcher buttons in the Sources section of the
tabbed panel. When a Virtual Input is displayed, Input A appears above (or, if you prefer, ‘in
front of’) Input B by default.
This means that – assuming that the sources assigned to Input A and Input B are the i) same size
and ii) no Position settings are active - when Input A is fully opaque it completely hides Input B.
