Beam with threaded stud, nut and washer fixings.
Important:
Ensure that any chimney register plate is not fixed or touching the beam or any fireplace part.
a)
Place the beam on top of the fireplace legs and header in correct position. Mark the position of both
beam fixing threaded studs and brackets, also mark outline of beam to wall. Remove the beam.
b)
Remove any plaster to the area of intended beam installation, remove plaster approximately 10mm
beyond the outline of beam marked to your wall.
c)
Drill a hole into the brick wall at each beam threaded stud fixing position using a bit that is just
slightly larger than the diameter of the threaded studs; ensure to drill completely through the brick
wall. The holes must be of adequate size and in correct position to ensure the beam does not have to
be forced into holes.
WARNING
. If you force the beam studs into holes this will create a very large
force onto the beam that will cause damage and cracking to the beam.
d)
Pull the fixing brackets straight to protrude above the beam to each side of the rear surface of the
beam. Dry fit the beam to the wall. Mark both bracket positions to the wall for suitable stainless-
steel steel wall plugs, screws, and washers. Remove the beam. Drill the wall at your pre marked
bracket positions to accommodate suitable stainless-steel steel wall plugs. Fit wall plugs.
e)
Ensure the rear surface of the beam and wall brick work are totally clean and contamination free.
Seal brickwork subject to silicone adhesive manufacturer’s instructions.
f)
Use silicone adhesive to fully bond all mating surfaces of the beam to the brick wall and the fireplace.
Position each beam threaded stud through each hole within the chimney brick wall. Ensure the
threaded studs are fully located into each hole to enable the rear surface of the beam to be fully
bonded to the brick wall and all fireplace mating surfaces with silicone adhesive.
g)
Ensure the studs are fully clean without contamination. Place the washers onto the threaded studs,
use suitable thread and nut locking fluid and screw each nut onto each threaded stud to the rear side
of the brick wall. Tighten the nuts ensuring the beam is fully against the brick wall and all mating
fireplace parts ensuring a total bond has been made.
WARNING.
Do not over tighten the stud nuts
as this will cause damage to the beam.
h)
Using suitable stainless-steel steel screws and washers through each bracket securely fix the beam to
the brick wall.
i)
Make good the wall with plaster around the beam and fireplace ensuring not to contaminate the
beam and fireplace with plaster or any other substance.
Important:
Ensure the area around the fireplace and beam fitting area is restricted to all persons and
animals until all fitting materials have fully dried and cured and all fireplace components are deemed
to be installed correctly and safely.
