Inmarsat Fleet system
The Inmarsat Global Area Network service (GAN)
provides 4.8 kbps voice communications service and
64 kbps data transmission to and from mobile/fixed
subscribers anywhere within the worldwide coverage
of the Inmarsat 3 spot Beam system,

reliable connection between the land
based (fixed) users and the
Mobile
Earth Stations (MESs)

Each satellite region is under the
control of a
Network Coordinating
Station
(
NCS
), which controls and
monitors the traffic between the
MESs and the LESs.
NCS:
Network Coordinating Station,
one in each Ocean Region (super-
vises all messages and signals sent in
the Inmarsat system).
LES:
Land Earth Station w/Net
service providers (interconnects fixed
telecommunication networks with the
Inmarsat system.
MES:
Mobile Earth Station
(NWC Voyager, a user terminal for the
Inmarsat system).
