DVC Marcom Digital invites you to use your imagination...

Imagine being able to search for and replay videos, at any time, from perhaps

thousands of titles, in the classroom,

instantly

, with no manual intervention

by library staff. Imagine previewing videos and preparing lessons from any PC.

Imagine if you could save notes for later use by yourself or others, along with a

video or as a lesson plan.

Imagine no longer.

• If you can play a DVD, you can use DVC Marcom Digital.

• Now, more than ever, Digital Video Commander puts

you

in command.

How does DVC Marcom Digital work?

In a classroom

1. Using either the Windows Client or a set-top box and remote control, identify

yourself to the system by entering your PIN number.

2. Choose your title or prepared lesson from the menus or search for title, subject

or key words. When using the remote control, key words can be entered from

the number keypad in the same way as SMS on a mobile phone.

3. Once you select a title, it will be available to you immediately. You access it with

DVD-style controls.

4. Once finished, log out to prevent unauthorised use.

Lesson preparation

From a PC, other types of material such as images, PPT presentations and music

can be uploaded to the system, stored against a registered user’s name and

accessed as part of a lesson.

Acquisition and Administration

Titles are added to the system using the Administration Tool. This is a Windows

application that allows the system administrator to assign users to the system,

establish access rules and levels and manage acquisitions.

The DVC Marcom Digital Capture Server allows you to make immediate or timer

recordings from analogue sources such as off-air TV or videotape, controlled by

the Administration Tool. Once a recording has been made it is stored initially on

the Capture Server where it may be edited prior to being transferred to a Storage

Server.

DVC Marcom Digital Features

Digital Video Commander (DVC) is an easy to use system for

acquisition, storage

and distribution

of audiovisual material.

DVC Marcom Digital enables you to

digitise, store, index, access and replay

material in digital MPEG formats. Select MPEG-2 for

DVD quality picture and

sound

and with DVC Marcom Digital you can also use MPEG 1 when digitising

lower-quality material such as VHS tapes, for example.

Users can access material via either a Windows PC client or via a

low-cost set-top

box

and a TV or projector, using a Video Commander remote control.

DVC Marcom Digital is particularly suited to sites such as schools, universities,

hospitals or anywhere a large number of people need

on-demand access

to

audiovisual material.

DVC Marcom Digital is very

expandable

. It is easy to add extra capture channels,

more storage and more set top boxes to the system.

DVC Marcom Digital can

record material

off-air and can also

digitise your

existing library

of analogue material such as videotapes.

DVC Marcom Digital has an inbuilt

subscriber management

system to control

who has access to which material and to keep records of subscriber activity.

DVC Marcom Digital integrates seamlessly with existing analogue Video

Commander systems (it even uses the same remotes and can often use the same

cabling) for a seamless

migration from analogue to digital.

DVC Marcom Digital is an

open-architecture, standards-based system

that

does not rely on proprietary hardware or operating systems.

Because its key components are Linux-based, DVC Marcom Digital is

reliable,

secure

and

requires no regular maintenance.
