In order to supply power for external sensor connection, the pin 4 of the DB9 male connector can be 

grounded or connected to 5V throught a protection diode. 
The signal that controls pin 4 state is routed to GPIO expander chip in order to set its state from iMX6UL-

IND/IOT using I2C bus. The following figure shows pin 4 output schematic.
