
6.3.7 Ignition system – Ignition timing check

• During operation, do not touch ignition cable except with insulated glove (at least class 4)!
DANGER
Rotating and moving engine parts.
Risk of crushing, danger of parts of the body being caught or pulled in.
• Before cranking the engine with starter system, make sure that there are no persons in the en-
gine's danger zone.
WARNING
A high level of noise is produced when the engine is running.
Risk of damage to hearing.
• Wear ear defenders.
Ignition system – Ignition timing
check
Note:
The service tool Diasys and a dongle with
access rights 1A or higher is required to
determine the ignition setpoint.
1.
Stop engine (→ Page 44).
2.
Install stroboscope clamp on cylinder A1
ignition cable.
3.
Start engine (→ Page 40).
4.
Using the stroboscope, check ignition tim-
ing on flywheel mark and compare with the
engine-specific setpoint value.
5.
If the ignition timing deviates from the
specification, it must be adjusted by cor-
recting the reset position in the ignition
system. The correction of the reset posi-
tion can be carried out with a PC program
which can be obtained free of charge from
the ignition system manufacturer.
6.
Check ignition timing.
7.
Disconnect stroboscope.
8.
Stop engine (→ Page 44).
