8.10 Charge-Air Cooling
8.10.1 Intercooler – Checking condensate drain line for coolant discharge and
obstruction
DANGER
Components are moving or rotating.
Risk of crushing, danger of parts of the body being caught or pulled in!
• Operate the engine at low load only. Keep clear of the danger zone of the engine.
WARNING
High level of engine noise when the engine is running.
Risk of damage to hearing!
• Wear ear protectors.
WARNING
Compressed air gun ejects a jet of pressurized air.
Risk of injury to eyes and damage to hearing, risk of rupturing internal organs!
• Never direct air jet at people.
• Always wear safety goggles/face mask and ear defenders.
Intercooler – Checking conden-
sate drain line for coolant dis-
charge and obstruction
1.
Check drain line for water discharge and ob-
struction when the engine is running idle.
2.
If no air emerges, remove condensate drain
line and blow out with compressed air.
3.
Replace obstructed drain line by new one.
4.
Install condensate drain line.
5.
If a large amount of coolant is continuously
discharged, the intercooler is leaking. Con-
tact Service.
Emergency measures prior to engine start with a leaking intercooler
1.
Remove injectors (→ Page 112).
2.
Bar engine manually (→ Page 98).
3.
Crank engine on starting system to blow out combustion chambers (→ Page 99).
4.
Install injectors (→ Page 113).
