7.15 Coolant Circuit, General, High-Temperature Circuit
7.15.1 Engine coolant – Level check
Preconditions
☑ Engine is stopped and starting disabled.
☑ MTU Fluids and Lubricants Specifications (A001061/..) are available.
WARNING
Coolant is hot and under pressure.
Risk of injury and scalding!
• Let the engine cool down.
• Wear protective clothing, gloves, and goggles / safety mask.
Checking engine coolant level at filler neck:
1.
Turn breather valve on coolant expansion tank counterclockwise to the first stop and allow pressure to
escape.
2.
Continue to turn breather valve counterclockwise and remove.
3.
Check coolant level (coolant must be visible at the lower edge of the cast-in eye).
Checking engine coolant level at
remote cooler:
1.
Check coolant level (coolant must be visible
at marking plate).
2.
Top up coolant if necessary (→ Page 120).
3.
Check and clean breather valve.
4.
Place breather valve on filler neck and
close.
Checking engine coolant level via level sensor:
1.
Switch on engine control system and check readings on the display.
2.
Top up coolant if necessary (→ Page 120).
