Maintenance
The device does not need special maintenance except for periodic functional checks (see proce-
dure in chapter 5.1, Access Code 1, chapter 5.3, Access Code 3, P12).
The system must be checked at regular intervals (not greater than 6 months) to ensure that it is
functioning properly in accordance with the EN 60079-29-2 and the applicable international,
national, industry-specific or company regulations. The sensitivity and the zero point of the
connected detectors must be adjusted as necessary in accordance with the operating instructions
for the types of detectors connected to the system.
Detectors which are no longer able to generate the minimum signal must be replaced.
The following checks need to be made with the same frequency: The efficiency of the FAILURE
relay contacts and the WARNING and ALARM relays.
These checks also need to be carried out with the board with opto-isolated outputs, if the relays
are installed outside the control unit.
In the event of a failure, contact local MSA representative.
MSA shall not be held liable for damage to items or persons if such checks are not made period-
ically as indicated above.
Be Aware of the Procedures for Handling Electrostatically Sensitive Electronics
The device contains electrostatically sensitive components. Do not open or repair the device
without using appropriate electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection. The warranty does not cover
damage caused by electrostatic discharges.
Observe Proper Battery Maintenance
Non replaceable backup battery is included in the 9010/9020 SIL control unit. The expected
battery lifetime is 10 years. Dispose it in accordance with local health and safety regulations.The
backup battery is used to backup internal system time and its malfunction (f.e. due to discharged
battery) does not affect a safe function of the unit.
Contact your local MSA representative for battery replacement if necessary.
