B. When the equipment has sustained damage or
if malfunctions occur.
C. When the equipment is transferred to another
owner or for any special reason.
D. When the equipment has been over- stressed
or if over- stress is suspected. Visual inspection of the
Restraint System will not always reveal the extent of
the damage caused by over- stress/crash impact/se-
vere loading conditions. In order to ensure that the orig-
inal design performance and structural integrity of the
restraint is maintained, the user should remove and re-
place all Restraint Systems within the aircraft after
over- stress/crash impact/severe loading conditions
have occurred.
3. Restraint Cleaning Guidelines
A. Standard Restraint System
-CAUTION-
The Restraint System must not be machine
washed because the webbing will shrink and
its performance characteristics will be
changed significantly.
-CAUTION-
Standard Restraint Systems may be dry
cleaned. However, the webbing will lose its
abrasion resistance coating after each cleaning
and its service life will therefore be decreased.
Refer to Restraint System manufacturer for dry
cleaning instructions.
Cleaning the Restraint System removes dirt and un-
wanted oil and grease. This helps the Restraint System
to last longer and prevents corrosion of the metal parts.
-CAUTION-
No soap or water is to be used on metal parts.
The webbing is to be cleaned with fresh water and a
mild soap. The metal fittings are cleaned with a cloth
moistened with isopropyl alcohol. After cleaning the as-
semblies, protect them from moisture, dirt, or other
contamination. Keep them protected until a visual
check is completed and return the Restraint System to
service.
-WARNING-
When using isopropyl alcohol, follow direc-
tions and warnings given by the manufacturer
& avoid contact with the webbing material.
Do not dry the Restraint System in direct sunlight or use
a direct heat source.
B. Inflatable Airbag Restraint System Cleaning
(Optional Restraint System)
-CAUTION-
INFLATABLE AIRBAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS:
Do not immerse the airbag belt assembly into
water. Moisture may damage internal compo-
nents and cause component failure.
-CAUTION-
Restraint Systems incorporating inflatable air-
bag technology may NOT be dry cleaned under
any circumstances.
(1) Refer to the Restraint System manufacturer
documentation (supplied with system) for cleaning in-
structions.
-CAUTION-
Do not use solvent type cleaners on webbing.
This may weaken the fibers. If fraying takes
place, replace belts immediately.
4. Restraint Storage (Standard Restraint System)
A. If it is necessary to keep the Restraint System in
storage, keep it in conditions with a temperature range
of - 22

to +131

F (- 30

to +55

C). The Restraint Sys-
tem must be protected from sunlight, dust, moisture,
and other contamination.
B. After removal from storage, new restraints shall
be subject to inspection before installation into the air-
craft.

REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
STANDARD RESTRAINT SYSTEMS
Removal of individual restraints is accomplished by:
1. Remove plastic snap covers protecting mounting
hardware at the seat and door frame/cabin post anchor
locations.
2. For access to restraint inertia- reel at cabin lower
sidewall, remove screws securing Scuff Cover and re-
move cover.
3. Loosen and remove retaining bolts, washers and
bushings.
4. Installation is the reverse procedure.
INFLATABLE AIRBAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM
Within milliseconds of an injurious crash event, the
EMA’s crash sensor evaluates the crash pulse and then
sends a crash pulse signal through the activation cir-
cuit. This signal releases the gas in the inflator, result-
ing in the airbag within the airbag belt’s cover breaking
through the cover’s tear able seam, and filling the air-
bag to its fully- inflated state. The inflating airbag will
automatically position itself between the forward monu-
ment and the occupant thus providing head protection
during the most critical time of the event. After airbag
deployment, the airbag deflates to enable the occupant
to egress the aircraft without obstruction from the air-
bag.
