Section 7: Finishing the fireplace
Step 1: Remove screws from
perimeter of glass as shown
below. The screws will be used
to fasten the cement board,
provided by Montigo, to the unit
in the finishing stages. Remove
the marked screws above and
below the glass. Place provided
template to check screw hole
positioning. Transfer template
to provided cement board to pre
drill pilot holes. Refer to figures
below for Screw locations.
Step 2: As shown in Figure 4;
Use Cement Board, supplied
by Montigo, to overlap the new
2 x 4's and Non-combustible
Header (front & rear face). Attach
on all sides of the glass, allowing
1/8" clearance from the rim of
the fireplace opening. Top piece
attaches to non combustible
header and fireplace. Bottom
piece attaches to fireplace and
combustible horizontal framing
member. Side pieces attach to
vertical 2x4s.
Step 3: As shown in Figure 5; Cut
standard Drywall / Wall board
to complete the installation of

cross members.
Fasten Cement Board to Unit, using screws
removed in step 1 (see figures 1 and 2 in
Section 3 on page 10), and to combustible
cross members.
Fasten cement board to unit using

screw holes, and predrilled holes
using sheet metal screws.
Combustible Drywall / Wallboard
