Voltage sags below the standard RMS value of 120 volts (“RMS” standing for Root Mean-Square, a common
mathematical method of defining the effective voltage or current of an AC wave) are often caused by power-
hungry
appliances and components, which draw more power (over 1800 watts) than your home was designed to support.
Your home theater system is power hungry, too, which causes even more voltage sags and ultimately compromised
home theater performance.
Voltage swells (above the standard RMS value of 120 volts) are often caused by the power company pushing excess
electricity in the electrical grid. Your expensive home theater components are extremely sensitive to any increase
in voltage, and can be severely damaged or destroyed by these unseen fluctuations in power.
