The stylus is scratching the record.

You may have replaced the stock Slip Mat with a thicker version. The default
screw position is based on the thickness of the stock Slip Mat. If replaced with a
thicker mat, gently turn the screw counterclockwise to reduce the contact force
of the stylus on the record.
