Brake/Parking Brake
The unit is equipped with a hand brake with the added feature of a parking brake. Use
the hand brake to control your speed, just as you would do on a bicycle. Use the parking
brake to remain still. The hand brake and parking brake ONLY function while your
weight is on the unit.
Just as many people need training on crutches or a wheelchair, you may need assistance
getting started with the Pediatric Knee Scooter. If you have any concerns regarding the
use of the Knee Scooter, seek assistance.
Do not use on or near stairs. Do not use while using mind-altering drugs, such as alcohol
or narcotics. Do not use to pull yourself up. Do not use if suffering from dizzy spells.
Please always use common sense.
Height Adjustment
The Pediatric Knee Scooter comes with 3 height settings. It was specifically designed to
require tools to avoid any unforeseen tampering or adjustments by children that could
compromise the safety of the device. The unit is shipped with the wheels set up for the
tallest configuration to fit users approximately 4’ 4” to 4’ 9”
•
Moving the wheels up to the middle holes accommodates users 3’ 11” to 4’ 4”
•
Moving the wheel up to the top most holes accommodates users 3’ 6” to 3’ 11”
Please note these are general guidelines and may vary upon the child. When standing
erect, the user’s good leg should be straight. The knee of your injured leg should be
resting comfortably in front of the cushion. There should be equal pressure on your good
foot and the knee of the injured leg. Your hips should be level with your back straight.
Remove one wheel at a time. To remove the wheels, you will need a 6mm hex or allen
wrench for the head of the bolts and 17mm wrench for the nut. Reassemble it in the
desired hole ensuring the washers and white poly spacer are in the identical order. When
tightening the wheels, tighten so the side to side play is taken out of the wheels.
Do not over tighten as this can crush the tube and damage the unit!
The brake on the rear wheel should be adjusted to match the appropriate set of holes.
For comfort, the brake handle may also be rotated 180 degrees. The push button parking
brake lock will now be on the underside of the brake handle.
Check daily to ensure all fasteners are in place and snug before use.
