Installing Other PKMs (DSS/BLF Units)
Three models of Programmable Key Modules (PKMs) (previously known as Direct Station Select
[DSS]/Busy Lamp Field [BLF] units) can be installed on digital telephones, depending on the model
of phone. Each suitable digital telephone supports up to four PKM (DSS/BLF) units, and each MiVoice
Office 250 supports a total of 20 PKM (DSS/BLF) units.
As described in the following sections, to install a PKM (DSS/BLF) unit on a digital telephone, carry
out the following process and associated procedures:
1.
Gather installation equipment and materials.
2.
Install Personal Computer Data Port Module (PCDPM) and Modem Data Port Module (MDPM)
devices in digital telephones, as required.
3.
Connect PCDPM cables.
4.
Install and test PKM (DSS/BLF) unit(s).
Gathering Equipment and Materials
Keep the following information in mind when gathering equipment and materials for installing PKM

• MDPMs are required on digital telephones in order to connect single line phones.
• Optional wall-mount kits for the Baser Server/DEI chassis. One wall-mount kit allows you to
mount the chassis flat against the MDF and the other kit from the Mitel DataNet CommSource
division provides a rack mount unit that can be wall-mounted on the MDF. For detailed information
about wall-mounting the chassis, see “Installing the CS Controller Chassis” on
