Equipment to Support UPS Monitoring
This section describes the installation of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units that support
various MiVoice Office 250 chassis. See “Compatible UPS Units” on
.
The UPS connects directly to a chassis USB port, and you should use only the USB cable provided
by the UPS manufacturer. Product validation testing has determined that non-original equipment
manufacturer (non-OEM) cables interfere with UPS Monitoring feature operation.
The UPS is connected to a USB-A port on the Base Server. Because only one USB port exists on
the CS Controller Base Server, if the port is occupied with a flash drive, it must be removed. The
use of a USB hub to increase the number of ports is also supported.
If installing an optional Processing Server (PS-1), the UPS must be connected to an available USB
port on the PS-1. The UPS must connect to the server running call processing (CP) software in order
for the UPS Monitoring feature to operate correctly.
To avoid electrically induced performance problems, all associated MiVoice Office 250 equipment
should be sourced from the same AC phase and ground reference. To assure that the electrical
source is the same, plug MiVoice Office 250 equipment into the same UPS unit. A common electrical
source is most critical with the Base Server and associated Digital Equipment Interface (DEI) units.
Because the PS-1 is IP networked, a common electrical source is not as critical. However, if wattage
and outlets are available, the PS-1 should be maintained on the same UPS. The PS-1 does not
require its own UPS unit.
Installing UPS Monitoring
Use the following procedure to install a UPS and activate UPS Monitoring on systems running v2.2
or later software.
To install a UPS and activate the UPS Monitoring feature:
1.
Upgrade to the latest MiVoice Office 250 software release. See “Network Environment Require
.
2.
The UPS Monitoring flag, Enable Shutdown on Low Battery, is set to
Yes
by default. Clearing
this flag prevents a system from shutting down when a low battery event is received from the
UPS unit.
IMPORTANT
Comply with the following electrical requirements when installing or upgrading MiVoice
Office 250 equipment:
• Plug MiVoice Office 250 equipment into the same UPS unit, in particular the Base
Server and associated Digital Equipment Interface (DEI) units. If wattage and outlets
are available, the PS-1 should be maintained on the same UPS.
• The UPS unit must be plugged into an isolated, dedicated circuit providing required
voltage, current, and grounding specifications.
• The power rating of the UPS unit must exceed the combined power ratings of all
MiVoice Office 250 equipment the UPS supports.
