SYSTEM UPGRADES AND EXPANSION
This portion of the manual provides procedures for upgrading and/or expanding MiVoice Office 250
systems. To upgrade to the latest software release, see “Network Environment Requirements” on
An upgrade and/or expansion may involve one of the following scenarios:
• Increase only the system software version release number, such as going from v3.2 Release 2
to v3.2 Release 3.
• Increase the system software version, such as going from v3.2 to v6.0.
• Expand resources by adding a PEC-1 and/or PS-1, while maintaining the same software version.
• Expand resources and increase the software release number or version.
Guidelines for Expanding or Upgrading a System
When adding hardware to or upgrading the version of a system, observe the following guidelines.
For detailed instructions and figures for each step, see the appropriate sections in this chapter.
1.
Advise the customer and plan to do the upgrade/expansion when it has the least impact on their
operation.
2.
If the changes affect the Processing Module (PM-1), Processor Expansion Card (PEC-1), Pro
-
cessing Server (PS-1), or customer database, perform a complete save of the customer
database. For details, refer to the database save and restore information in the
MiVoice Office
250 Features and Programming Guide
.
3.
If external voice processing will be affected, save the voice processing database and prompts.
If using Unified Voice Messaging only, back up the voice processing database to a USB flash
drive.
4.
If performing an upgrade, follow the instructions provided with the software for saving, convert
-
ing, and restoring software. See “Upgrading Existing Systems to v5.x and later Software“ on
5.
Make sure the software license includes the appropriate features required for the installation or
upgrade. If the license does not match DB Programming, an error message appears on the LCD
panel and administrator phone. For additional information, refer to the software license infor
-
mation in the
MiVoice Office 250 Features and Programming Guide
.
6.
Refer to the Programming chapter in the
MiVoice Office 250 Features and Programming Guide
,
for procedural guidance to restore the database or voice mail database and configure and
program the additions to the system.
7.
Train end users on any new features or options that have been installed. Provide them contact
information for directing questions or issues.
Network Environment Requirements
For the most efficient network connectivity and system performance, the MiVoice Office 250 must
operate in a suitable network environment. Detailed characteristics appear in
VoIP Data Network
Requirements
, part number 835.2885.
