Milliflex-100 Single-Head Pump and Milliflex Sensor II Twin-Head Pump Sanitation Guide

2

Introduction

To sanitize the Milliflex™-100 Single-Head pump or the Milliflex Sensor II Twin-Head pump, you need to:

Prepare the sodium hypochlorite (250 ppm) sanitizing agent

Run the sanitation procedure

Both Milliflex pump models use the same sanitizing agent solution. However, the Milliflex-100 Single Head pumps (MXP1  115
60 and MXP1 230 50) use a different sanitation procedure than the one used for the Milliflex Sensor II Twin-Head pumps (MXPS
200 15 and MXPS 200 23). Follow the appropriate procedure for your Milliflex pump.

CAUTION:

To ensure your pump operates at optimum levels, sanitize it as described in this user guide before you run samples

through it. After that, sanitize it at the end of  each day of  use.

Prepare the Sanitizing Agent

1. Dilute one volume of  sodium hypochlorite (48% hydrochloric) in three volumes of  sterile (Milli-Q™ water) to obtain a solu-

tion at 12% hydrochloric.

2. Dilute 7 mL of  this solution at 12% hydrochloric in 1 L of  water to obtain a solution at 250 ppm. You need 400 mL of  this

solution to sanitize the Milliflex-100 Single-Head pump and 800 mL of  this solution to sanitize the Milliflex Sensor II Twin-
Head pump.

3. Follow the steps in “Sanitize the Milliflex-100 Single-Head Pump” or “Sanitize the Milliflex Sensor II Twin-Head Pump.”

Sanitize the Milliflex-100 Single-Head Pump

Once you prepare the sanitizing agent, perform these steps to sanitize the Milliflex-100 Single-Head pump before its first use and
after daily use.

1. Place the supplied cover on the vacuum pump filter support as shown:

Sanitize the Milliflex Sensor II Twin-Head Pump

Once you prepare the sanitizing agent, perform these steps to sanitize the Milliflex Sensor II Single-Head pump before its first
use and after daily use.

1. Switch on the pump. Then place the supplied covers onto each vacuum pump filter support as shown:

3

2. Connect the supplied tubing into the Luer™ connection on the right side of  the pump as shown:

3. Fill a flask with 400 mL of  the sanitizing agent you just prepared (250 ppm). Then put the other end of  the tubing into the

flask with the agent.

4. Start the pump. Run it for 30 seconds, then stop it. The pump attempts to vent to the atmosphere for approximately eight

seconds and stops. In those seconds, the pump sucks the sanitizing agent (instead of  air) through the internal components.
When it stops, the sanitizing agent flows from the flask through all the pump channels and tubing and out into the reservoir.
If  the pump does not draw up the sanitizing agent, check the end of  the tubing to make sure it did not seal against the flask
walls, preventing access to the solution.

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until all the solution from the flask runs through the pump and out to the reservoir.

6. Remove the reservoir, empty the contents appropriately, and replace it for flushing with sterile water.

7. Rinse the sanitizing agent out of  the pump by repeating steps 3–5 using sterile water (400 mL or more).

8. Remove the tubing used for the sanitizing agent. Attach clean tubing, then repeat steps 6 and 7 again to purge the system.

2. Connect the supplied tubing to the Luer connection on the back of  the pump as shown:

3. Fill a flask with 400 mL of  the sanitizing agent you just prepared (250 ppm). Then put the other end of  the tubing into the

flask with the agent.

4. Push the ON/OFF button to turn on the pump (if  not on already). Let the pump run for 10 seconds, then stop it. The pump

draws up the sanitizing agent. If  it does not draw up the agent, check the end of  the tubing to make sure it did not seal against
the flask walls, preventing access to the solution.

5. Repeat steps 1–4 for each head until 400 mL of  sanitizing agent passes through both sections of  the pump.

6. Rinse the sanitizing agent out of  the pump by repeating steps 3–5 using sterile water (400 mL or more for each head).

7. Remove the tubing used for the sanitizing agent. Attach clean tubing, then repeat steps 3–6 again to purge the system.
