It is important to note that the saved format file function works extremely well with variable
text and greatly improves throughput. Simply configure the format file with the label header,
format field data, fixed text, and terminate the file with the ESC character. The format may
then be accessed by using the ^Ax^D58<CR> command to process the format and then text
may be entered followed by the ^D3 print command.
To list a saved format that has been previously
stored in the printer’s memory, use the
^Ax^D54 <CR> command sequence to list the format to the serial port. This is helpful in
determining if a memory slot has been taken and not available.
The sample formats below demonstrate how to use the memory commands. File #1
Initiates memory clear, and then saves a format into slot #1. File #2 recalls the format
stored in slot #1, enters text and then prints. Refer to Figure 11 for the printed
representation of File #2 below.
File #3 shows the format that is saved in File #1 being accessed a second time with different
text string data. Notice that the CC (Character Count) stored in the format of File#1 is set to
the highest number of characters that is allowed to print. The second text string only has a
CC of 6, so only the first 6 characters (Inform) will print on the second line of format File#3,
see Figure 12.
