Wine glass choice
There are many different sizes and types of wine glass specific for use with certain wine varieties, however we suggest that 2-3 types should be sufficient.
Select a smaller glass for white and a larger more rounded glass for red wines.
Generally full bodied wines are best in larger glassware whilst lighter, fruitier wines do well in small glasses.
White wine
is best in a more upright U shaped glass so that it maintains its cool temperature longer.
Red wines
are best served in large wine glasses. The bowls of these glasses will be fuller and rounder with a larger opening than other wine glasses of similar capacities in order to allow you to dip your nose into the
glass to detect aroma. This bowl style is also imperative because the complex aromas and flavours of red wine demand a glass with a larger surface area to ensure that the wine comes in contact with more air.
For
champagne
or
sparkling
wines choose fluted or tulip shaped glasses. The narrow shape will help keep the bubbles intact longer and maintain the flavour.
