Special Operating Conditions
Driving Instructions
The most im portant rule fo r slippery
w inter roads is to drive sensibly
and avoid any abrupt accelerating,
braking and steering maneuvers.
If the vehicle starts swaying, move
selector lever to position “ N ” .
Attem pt to regain control of the ve­
hicle by means of corresponding
corrective steering action. In order
to retain the front wheel steering
capability, employ “ d ab -b ra king ”
technique.
Tire Chains
Tire chains can only be used on the
driving wheels. Use only chains
tested and recommended by us.
Any MERCEDES-BENZ service
station w ill readily advise you.
Retighten newly mounted tire chains
after a few miles of driving. Do not
exceed perm issible maximum speed
of 30 mph (50 km/h). On clear
roads, remove the chains as soon
as practicable. Adhere to the manu­
fa ctu re r’s m ounting instructions.
High Altitude Engine Adjustment
(above 4,000 ft./1,219m)
Federal regulations previously in
effect fo r vehicles with respect to
adjustm ents required fo r vehicles
sold in high altitude areas have been
rescinded.
Even though such adjustm ents are
not legally binding any longer,
we nevertheless recommend such
adjustm ents for vehicles pre­
dom inantly operated in high altitude
areas.
Conversely, vehicles adjusted for
high altitudes but operated in low
altitudes should be readjusted.
