Electronic Remote Controls
Symptom
Remedy
ERC (electronic remote control) lever is too hard or too
easy to get out of neutral detent.
Adjust detent tension. Refer to
Section 2:
Dual-Handle Electronic
Remote Control (ERC)—Features and Operation
or
Optional
SportFish Electronic Remote Control (ERC)—Features and
Operation
.
ERC lever moves too hard or too easy through its range
of motion.
Adjust handle tension screw. Refer to
Section 2: Dual-Handle
Electronic Remote Control (ERC)—Features and Operation
or
Optional SportFish Electronic Remote Control (ERC)—
Features and Operation
.
ERC lever increases engine RPM, but does not engage
gears and boat does not move.
Check that ERC levers are in neutral. Return to neutral and check
again.
Turn the key switch to off and back to on.
Check "Throttle Only" button on DTS track pad. Put ERC levers in
neutral and push the button to disengage, if the light is on.
Check transmission fluid level and fill if necessary. See
Section 5,
Maintenance
.
Engage gears manually. See
Section 3, Gear Engagement—
Emergency Procedure
.
Contact your Authorized Cummins MerCruiser Repair Facility.
ERC lever controls engine and drive, but does not reach
wide open throttle (WOT—100% throttle).
Check that all key switches are on.
Check that ERC levers are not positioned in opposed gears.
If engine only reaches 50% of WOT, check "DOCKING" button on
DTS track pad. Place both ERC handles in neutral and push the
dock button to disengage, if light is on.
Check VesselView to see if cruise control is enabled. Disable cruise
control.
Consult your Check VesselView for Guardian fault codes that cause
engine power reduction.
Unlock the Automatic Tab Override switch or raise tabs.
Check propellers for damage. If damage is found, have the vessel
checked by your Authorized Cummins MerCruiser Diesel Repair
Facility to discuss if propellers need to be changed.
ERC on triple engine applications—center engine not
responding to throttle when one outer engine is not
operating
Engage the throttle lever of the engine that is not operating to raise
the RPM of the center engine. Have the non‑operational engine
checked by your Authorized Cummins MerCruiser Diesel Repair
Facility
ERC lever controls engine and drive, but does not respond
in a linear manner.
Check "TROLL" button on DTS track pad. Put handles in Neutral
and push "TROLL" button to disengage, if light is on.
Check if dock mode or cruise mode are on. Turn off or disengage,
if on.
One ERC lever is moved, but all engines respond.
Check "1 LEVER" button on DTS track pad. Place both ERC handles
in neutral and try again.
One lever is moved, but all engines respond and single
lever mode is not engaged.
One lever has failed and all engines are operating from the
functional lever. Have the ERC checked by your Authorized
Cummins MerCruiser Diesel Repair Facility
ERC control, joystick, and steering wheel do not function. Station is not active, transfer helm control to the station required.
