Fluid coupling
Vehicles with fluid coupling can be identified by the heat
exchanger (1) on the right side in the wheel well. The
fluid coupling enables the vehicle to start off with the
clutch open without causing wear. After moving off, the
clutch is closed automatically. The indicator lamp in the
instrument cluster is on when the fluid coupling is active.

The oil temperature increases if you drive with the fluid
coupling in clutch mode. If the oil temperature is
excessively high, an event message is displayed and a
warning tone sounds.
• Shift to a lower gear so that the oil temperature
drops.
If the event message and warning tone do not go out:
• Apply parking brake.
• Shift transmission to neutral.
• Let engine run at approx. 1200 rpm for around 1
minute.

Moving off with the clutch
In the event of electric or pneumatic faults in the fluid
coupling, the vehicle can also be moved with the friction
clutch using rocking mode.

• Select the lowest gear.
• Activate rocking mode: Press top button. When the
indicator lamp in the button lights up, the rocking
function is switched on.
Driving time is restricted to five minutes because,
depending on the fluid coupling fault, optimum
lubrication may not be guaranteed.
