Starting and Shifting Gears
Do not store any ob je cts in the d riv e r’s
footwell area because they could
becom e lodged under the o p e ra to r’s
pedals thus rend e rin g these co n tro ls
partially or to ta lly inoperative.
Test the service brake shortly after
d rivin g off.
W arm up the engine sm oothly. Do not
place full load on the engine until the
ope ra tin g te m p e ra tu re has been
reached.
Automatic Transmission
The au tom atic tra n sm issio n facilitates
and s im p lifie s the handling of the
vehicle. The ind ivid u a l gears are
shifted a utom atically de p endent upon
se le cto r lever position, vehicle speed
and a cce le ra to r position.
Hint
If repairs are ca rrie d out on the vehicle
with the engine running, depress the
p arking brake pedal and sh ift selector
lever to position “ P” .
Starting
S hift selector lever to the desired
d rivin g position only w hen the engine
is idling and the service brake is
applied. Do not release the brake
before m oving off. The vehicle may
otherw ise start creeping when the
selector lever is in a driving position.
A cce le ra to r position
P artial th ro ttle = early upshifting =
norm al acceleration.
Full th ro ttle = re tarded upshifting =
m axim um acceleration.
D epressing the acce le ra to r beyond
fu ll th ro ttle to kickdow n position
means dow nshifting to the next lower
gear and thus m axim um acceleration.
If you ease up on the accelerator
after having attained the desired
sspeed, the transm ission w ill sh ift up
again.
