Blade Retention Bolts. The
expansion bushings of the
blade retention bolts can lose tension
after installation. This can cause a loss
of the initial torque. Do the Special
Inspection retorque procedures (ref.
Section 05-20-10, Table 203, and
Section 62-10-00, Inspection/Check,
Torque Check of the (-105) Blade
Retention Bolts). Failure to do this can
cause the loss of a main rotor blade
from the rotorcraft during operation.
Do not apply lubricant or
preservative on blade reten­
tion bolts.
Make sure that the holes of
the pitchcase, flexbeam, and
blade are aligned and that the blade is
held level during installation and
clamp-up of the blade retention bolt. If
the holes are not correctly aligned and
the blade held level, the bushings of
the blade retention bolt will not
expand equally during installation and
clamp-up.
Carefully install the main rotor
blades:
Do not move the rotor blade tip up more
than
4.00 feet (1.22 m) when the rotor is
not in operation. Make small upward
movements of the flexbeam at the blade
attach point. Damage to the flexbeam can
occur.
Limit the pitchcase movement with pad­
ding (cloth, foam, packing material, etc.)
around the flexbeam with the main rotor
blade removed. This prevents damage to
the flexbeam and pitchcase.
Do not install -101 bolts with
-103 or -105 bolts. If -103 and
-105 bolts are installed on the same rotor
head, equally space the bolts around the
rotor head to prevent a rotor imbalance.

(15). BLADE RETENTION BOLT (PN
900R3100001-105) -
Install blade
retention bolt (1):
(a). If necessary, move main rotor blade
(12) to let guide pin tool (T920) (13)
move freely in the lead hole.
(b). Remove cotter pin (14) from guide pin
tool (T920) (13) in the lead hole.
(c). Install O-ring (8) under thrust
washer (4).
(d). Put retainer (9) on top of pitchcase
(10).
Do not align the slots of the
expandable bushings of blade
retention bolt (1). Make sure the slots are
random and that adjacent slots are not
aligned.
Do not use spring clip (5) as a
lever to install the blade reten­
tion bolts. This is an incorrect use of the
spring clip. The spring clip can loose shape
and tension if bent too much. Move the tab
of the spring clip until there is sufficient
space to install over adjustment nut (6). As
necessary, use a socket to hold and tighten
adjustment nut (6).
NOTE:
Make small movements with the main
rotor blade as you install the blade retention
bolts. Make sure the bolts freely go into the
blades. The bolts can be installed by hand
with minimum force.
(e). Install blade retention bolt (1) at the
top of pitchcase (10) as you remove
guide pin tool (T920) (13).
1). Install blade retention bolt (1) in
retainer (9), pitchcase (10),
flexbeam (11), and main rotor
blade (12).
2). Make sure spring clip (5) is aligned
in the center of the slot of retainer
(9).
3). Make sure lock ring (7) is fully
outside the bottom surface of
pitchcase (10).
4). Close cam handle (3) of blade
retention bolt (1).
(f). Turn torque nut (2) with a torque
wrench to make sure that the torque
necessary to turn cam handle (3)
before the bushings expand is not
more than
21 in-lb (2.37 Nm) .
